Mike Miles on Jobs

Revise corporate tax policies to save jobs

We need to revise corporate tax policies so that US firms are encouraged to maintain jobs here at home. We need to discourage transfer pricing & other tax avoidance schemes. We also need to establish a minimum real corporate tax rate of 17% (corporations pay an average of 21%, but many of the big corporation pay less than that and some pay no corporate tax at all). Any incentive to decrease the 17% real rate, such as favorable depreciation policies, should be tied to job creation or worker benefits.

Providing jobs is the public interest-Bush has failed

The greatest harm to the public interest comes from the failure of labor markets to provide enough jobs for all who are ready, willing, and able to work. During the Bush administration over 2.5 million have been lost, including an estimated 76,000 Colorado jobs in the last two years. Now there are over 9 million unemployed Americans. Colorado's unemployment rate has doubled over the last four years.
