Larry Stafford on Drugs

Libertarian challenger

Distributing drugs is criminal; use or abuse is not

Q: Do you agree with the VoteMatch topic, “Drug use is immoral: enforce laws against it”?

A: Disagree. It’s harmful, not immoral. All drug use is harmful to your health over extended periods of time... legal, or illegal. There are always side effects of any drug that aren’t healthy for you when used for extended time periods. Use of any drug should be avoided. It is better to just live healthfully to begin with so you don’t need any drug! With all that said... abuse of drugs only directly harms the individual abuser. Crime only really occurs when one individual directly harms another through the use of force, fraud, or coercion. Thus it isn’t truly a crime to have, or use any drug. If you distribute harmful drugs to others through fraudulent terms... that is a true crime. Thus as a nation we should focus on helping citizens END their harmful habits, versus treating them as criminals & making societies problems worse by doing so.
