The law, which creates new criminal offenses and enhances existing penalties for offenses against children, is named in honor of Haley Spicer, a child abuse survivor.
"This legislation takes the next step in protecting our state's greatest resource and most innocent citizens--our children," Bredesen said.
"With Claire's Law, we are greatly improving early hearing detection and intervention in Tennessee," Bredesen said. "With these new measures in place for early detection, we will be able to better help children with hearing loss and to promote their healthy development."
The Tennessee Voter Confidence Act requires each county to use precinct voting machines that produce a paper ballot trail. The bill requires that every voting system purchased after January 1, 2009 be systems that produce an optical scan voter-verified paper ballot.
