State of Vermont Archives: on Free Trade

Gerald Malloy: Wants a comprehensive review US Trade and Import practices

A comprehensive review US Trade and Import practices, followed by the implementation of meaningful sanctions on countries with human rights violations, that harbor terrorists, that do not have fair Trade practices, and that produce Fentanyl and other drugs that are killing Americans. Stand up and Stop funding Communism, Terrorism, and Aggression--with the follow on benefit that we can make products instead of importing them.

Phil Scott: Buying local isn't just for hippies anymore

During the summer of 2011, Lt. Governor Scott attended parades, fairs and farmers markets throughout the state, spreading the message "Buy Local: It's not just for hippies anymore."

What does he mean by "it's not just for hippies?" Buying local doesn't have to mean buying organic or paying more for products & services. Buying local also doesn't have to be a strictly "liberal" message, although it's often been portrayed that way in the past. Supporting our neighbors has no partisan affiliation. Buying Local is for everyone.

The Lieutenant Governor's office offers an excellent opportunity to promote Vermont products and the Vermont brand. While it's important to market Vermont outside the state, Lt. Governor Scott wants to make sure we don't ignore the opportunities to market ourselves within our own communities. And "Candidate Scott" walks the walk: In all of his election campaigns, Phil Scott has worked exclusively with vendors and consultants within Vermont's borders.

Phil Scott: Supports USMCA trade agreement to replace NAFTA

The USMCA is a new trade pact among the United States, Mexico and Canada, intended as a stronger and modernized replacement for the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).

Gov. Phil Scott (R-VT): "I'm very pleased to see leaders in the U.S., Mexico and Canada come to an initial agreement that modernizes the free trade agreement governing these three countries while keeping our trilateral partnership intact."

Phil Scott: Congress should pass USMCA trade deal

A new, and better, trade agreement--known as the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA)--was put forward, we are still waiting for the agreement to be reviewed, and ratified, by the U.S Congress. Every day that passes before the agreement is ratified in Congress is another day employers, workers and families are not benefiting from the new opportunities it makes possible and the higher standards it sets. We urge Congress to give it prompt consideration and move swiftly forward with ratification.

David Zuckerman: China could provide a broad market for Vermont

Zuckerman welcomes the Chinese Consulate General in New York to introduce and promote Vermont to more Chinese people. He knows the overall strength of the diary, beer, and other industries in Vermont well, and he believes that China could definitely provide a broad market for them. He is willing to introduce the "The Belt and Road" construction and the holding of the Expo in China to relevant departments of the State Government and the enterprises in Vermont.
