State of North Carolina Archives: on Foreign Policy

Bev Perdue: International dialogue will lead to a more peaceful world

We live in an increasingly interconnected world and improving global literacy among our citizens contributes significantly to our nation's foreign policy, economic competitiveness and national security. Through international education, the US can establish a foundation for dialogue and partnership with the rest of the world and create the conditions for lasting global peace, security, and well-being; I proclaim November 14-18, 2011, as International Education Week.

David Rouzer: Never cede power that usurps our national sovereignty

I believe in foreign intervention only when we have a direct threat to the national interest of the US. We must also take into account the previous decisions made & ensure that the investment in lives and funding will not be vain. I believe we should do everything in our power to defend and protect US sovereignty and uphold the US Constitution. Under no circumstances should we cede or grant any power to any international body that usurps our national sovereignty--no matter how noble the cause may seem.

Marjorie K. Eastman: US must hold China accountable at every turn

As an Army veteran with a master's degree in International Security, with concentrations in Homeland Security, Intelligence, and Human Rights, Marjorie deeply understands how China poses a serious threat to our freedoms--and what it will take to win the 21st century. As a Senator, Marjorie will fight to bring critical supply chains back to American soil, hold China accountable at every turn, and strengthen our national defense.

Paul Wright: Our government action broke post-Cold War peace with Russia

America had good relations with Russia in 1991 [after] the Cold War. But recently we have returned to bad relations with Russia. Why?
  1. By refusal to allow Russia to join the other European nations in NATO--Did not our government break Reagan's Peace?
  2. By expanding of NATO into the Baltics and the nations of Eastern Europe--Did not our government break Reagan's Peace?
  3. By our withdrawal of the US from the Anti-ballistic missile treaty--
  4. By changing of America's defensive (peaceful) war policy to one allowing offensive preemptive (aggressive, "shoot first") nuclear attacks by the US on other countries, including Russia--
  5. By establishing military missile bases in countries on the borders of Russia--
  6. By the support of the leaders of the coup that replaced the duly elected government of Ukraine--
  7. By the current, ongoing military buildup in the Ukraine and the nations bordering Russia--Did not our government break Reagan's Peace?
