David Baria: Syria used chemical weapons against its own civilians

Chemical weapons are devastating and should never be used. It is especially horrific when a government turns these weapons against its own people. Civilians, including women and children, in Syria have been under attack by their own government for far too long. My thoughts are with our troops and their families during this time.

Dick Cheney: Iraq is the central front in the war on terror

In Iraq, a ruthless dictator cultivated weapons of mass destruction and the means to deliver them. He gave support to terrorists and had relationships with al Qaeda-and his regime is no more.

Freedom still has enemies in Iraq. These terrorists are targeting the very success and the freedom that we’re providing for the Iraqi people.

Iraq is now the central front in the war on terror. And we are rolling back the terrorist threat at the heart of its power. We are striking aggressively at the terrorists in Iraq, defeating them there, so we do not have to face them on the streets of our own cities.

We are calling on other nations to help Iraqis build a free country, which will make all of us more secure. We are standing with the Iraqi people as they assume more responsibilities for their own security and self-government. These are not easy tasks, but they are absolutely essential. We will finish what we have begun, and we will win this essential victory in the war on terror.

Roger Wicker: Withdraw from Iran nuke deal, and step up sanctions

Sen. Roger Wicker (R-MS) and more than a dozen Republican Senate colleagues wrote in an Aug. 22 letter sent to the Treasury Secretary: "We understand that Iran's leaders are working with American adversaries, and reportedly even with some allies, to circumvent sanctions."

Specifically, the lawmakers requested any necessary steps to guarantee the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication (SWIFT), an international banking messaging system that connects financial institutions around the world, disconnects the Central Bank of Iran and all other designated Iranian financial institutions.

Sen. Wicker added that "President Trump was right to withdraw from the failed Iran nuclear deal and the Administration should now go further to maximize pressure on Tehran." He said "blocking Iran's access to financial services would encourage the regime to abandon its nuclear programs, support of terrorism and threats to Israel and regional security."

Ty Pinkins: We have to support the war in Ukraine against Russia

That's one of the reasons why I think we have to do what we're doing in Ukraine. We have to support the war in Ukraine against Russia. One, because we have two options: we can invest in helping Ukrainians defend against Russia with money today, or we'll be helping Europe defend against Russia in the future in blood by sending our soldiers there. To turn our back on Ukraine today is going to make us pay tomorrow if we don't (stand with Ukraine).
