Andrew Cuomo: Pro-active policy to protect groundwater

This state has been the most aggressive state in the country in protecting groundwater, and I applaud the members of the legislature for all the actions they've taken. Clean Water Infrastructure Act, we just passed last year, $2.5 billion. We have the Bay Park Wastewater Treatment Plant that we just announced where we're redoing the Water Infrastructure Improvement Act. Kathy Hochul: EPA cleanup of intolerable odors & emissions in Attica

Hochul announced that the EPA will now assume the lead role in the troubling situation at an Attica business, which has left the community exposed to intolerable odors and emissions.

"The EPA & state DEC [will] to take the lead to investigate the situation and conduct air and dust sample testing. It is unacceptable that residents continue to endure poor air quality and worry about their health, even when in their homes," Rep. Hochul said.

Have mobilized personnel to the site to work on controlling the fire and emissions;
Have taken the lead on testing and remediation efforts;
Will protect taxpayers by seeking cost recovery from the responsible company.

Portions of a large pile of glass fragments at the facility are burning at 750 degrees, creating nuisance emissions. Further, odors and dust emanating from the facility have had an adverse affect on general quality of life in the community.
