Cal Cunningham:
Tax cuts for wealthy & corporations fuel income inequality
Cal believes that the only economy that truly works is an economy that generates opportunities for everyone. The economy is steeply tilted in favor of the wealthy and against regular families struggling to make ends meet.
Growing income inequality in our country is being fueled by the recent tax law that overwhelmingly benefits the largest corporations and the ultra-wealthy while leaving middle-class and poor families further behind.

Make Child Tax Credit permanent
The direct payments to parents and caregivers were a part of the pandemic relief plan to give working families a little more room in their budgets to buy groceries and school supplies, pay the rent or mortgage and cover unexpected expenses like medical
care. It will lift nearly 140,000 children in North Carolina out of poverty. In short, this tax cut is life-changing for children and families in our state and across our country--which is exactly why these tax cuts need to be made permanent.

Lower taxes, smaller government, & personal responsibility
Forest, a self-described conservative Republican, focused his campaign on decreasing the state's unemployment and advocated his job creation plan that involved recruiting companies to relocate to North Carolina by creating a business climate
of what he described as "low taxes, good roads and safe communities." He ran on what he called a "three-legged stool platform."- smaller government
- lower taxes
- personal responsibility

For veterans making their home in North Carolina, we will waive their first year of property taxes. This benefit equals, on average, $1,200 or more.
This will encourage new veterans to quickly put down roots in our state as our heroes are planning their next steps in life. Eliminate state income tax on veterans' retirement benefits.

Dan Forest:
Best business incentive is tax relief
Since most businesses are small businesses that never get to see a government incentive, the best incentive is tax relief for all companies that pay taxes, small and large.
Tax relief allows them to make decisions that can lead to growth in the economy in a fair and equitable way and helps all communities, not just the big cities where most corporate incentive money lands.

Supports a Service Worker's Tax Act
I support a Service Worker's Tax Act and have filed bills each Session I have served in testament
to my belief that tip reporting in wages creates a permanent underclass in this category of workers who are overwhelming women.

Mark Walker:
Replace broken tax code with flat tax and FairTax models
We must reduce the tax burden on working Americans. In 2008, President Obama stated that he would not raise taxes on the middle class. Yet, due to the increase in payroll taxes (as well as the new ObamaCare premiums, taxes and penalties)
paychecks are shrinking while many personal exemptions and deductions appear to be dangerously close to extinction.
It is time for tax reform through a radical change in our current tax code. This administration has added thousands of pages to a tax code that is broken, misused and manipulated.
The flat tax and fair tax models are much better models and could be implemented whereby all Americans share some responsibility. We will not dig ourselves out overnight, but we must start overhauling the current system now.

Ted Budd:
Endorsed by Club for Growth; against tax increases
Budd has a major ally upon entering the race: The conservative Club for Growth endorsed his candidacy shortly after he launched. The group's president, David McIntosh, previously told
POLITICO they would likely spend seven figures to back him. "Rep. Budd has already proven that he is a conservative champion in the House fighting against reinstating earmarks, bloated budgets, and tax increases," McIntosh said.

Dale Folwell:
Supported tax cuts putting state employees out of work
Local Republican representatives said they support the House budget, preferring cuts--even painful ones--to a tax increase or continuation of the penny tax. "We're not going to put people back to work raising taxes," said state Rep. Dale Folwell.
But Folwell acknowledged that the House budget would put many state employees out of work. "The job creation of this state has to come from private industry, and not from government," he said.

Mark Robinson:
Lower taxes for everyone, not just corporate incentives
While Robinson confirmed that his full platform would be released sometime in the near future, he did touch on a few issues during his speech that offers a framework for his positions.
He discussed taxes and opined that the state needs to lower taxes for "everyone," not just as incentives for corporations coming to the state.

Don't derail cuts to corporate and individual income tax
On announcing for governor: "We're bringing in a lot of people into in North Carolina. We are well positioned for the future, but we've got to be in a position to deal with the future," Wells said. Making government more efficient--not derailing recent
actions by the Republican-controlled General Assembly to reduce corporate and individual income tax rates--is one way to put the state on stronger footing, he added.

Michael Morgan:
Upheld sales tax on in-state sales fulfilled from Wisconsin
Wisconsin-based printing company Quad Graphics sued the Department of Revenue after it levied sales taxes on orders sold by its North Carolina salesperson to a company based in North Carolina, even though the order was fulfilled and shipped in
Wisconsin. A Supreme Court opinion authored by Morgan overturns a ruling that found that Quad doesn't owe taxes on such sales. "We uphold North Carolina's tax because petitioner's activities have a substantial nexus with North Carolina," Morgan wrote.

Josh Stein:
$520 tax cut for every average working family
Stein said he is proposing the working families tax cut, which would reinstate the State Earned Income Tax Credit. It was eliminated in 2014, according to information from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities.
It is different from the federal earned income tax credit, which families still can claim.Stein's office estimates the average working family could receive more than
$520 if the proposed plan is put in place, and families with three or more children could see as much as $1,486 back in their pockets from the tax credit.
"It's all about putting more money into the pockets of working people, raising children out of poverty and stimulating local economies," Stein said.

Josh Stein:
Cut taxes for working families
I believe in the promise of this state that if you work hard, where you come from should not limit how far you can go. I am running for Governor to deliver on that promise by investing
in our people and their futures and building a state with a thriving economy, safe communities, and strong schools. As Governor, I will work to deliver the economic security and peace of mind that every
North Carolinian deserves by lowering costs, raising the minimum wage, and cutting taxes for working families. I will work to build safe communities by confronting the fentanyl crisis
and recruiting and retaining well-trained, public-spirited law enforcement officers. And I will recommit our state to investing in our public schools.

Michael Whatley:
Trump tax cuts will be a cornerstone of Republican messaging
Whatley said the tax cuts and spending measure, which narrowly passed the House and Senate two weeks ago along near-party lines, will be the "cornerstone" of RNC messaging going forward. The measure is stuffed full of Trump's
2024 campaign trail promises and second-term priorities on tax cuts, immigration, defense, energy and the debt limit. It includes extending the president's signature 2017 tax cuts and eliminating taxes on tips and overtime pay.

Thom Tillis:
Extend and expand the Trump tax cuts: largest in history
The bill extends and expands the Trump tax cuts, the largest in American history. It also increases the child tax credit, extends and expands the pass-through deduction that is vital for small businesses, and expands credits for employer-provided
childcare. Failure to get this done is not an option. Any member of Congress--Democrat or Republican--who votes against the bill will vote for the largest tax hike in American history.
