Foster Campbell: ObamaCare's pre-existing rule is good; but fix other things

Campbell told leaders from insurance companies, and representatives of the pharmaceutical industry that he has a record which proves he can make progress on controversial topics in healthcare like controlling the cost of prescription drugs, and regulating competition across healthcare.

Campbell committed to support changes to the Affordable Care Act including changes for small businesses to ease the burden of providing employer-based options. "250,000 new consumers now have healthcare in Louisiana and you can't be denied for a pre-existing condition. That's good," said Campbell. "But there is so much we have to fix to get our whole system working better."

Proposed mergers by major insurance companies were of particular concern to event organizers, because of alleged antitrust violations. "I regulate monopolies right now on the Public Service Commission, so it's no secret that I fight for consumers who don't have lobbyists," said Campbell. "I believe in healthy competition."

Garret Graves: Obamacare is a massive expansion of government; repeal it

Weighing in at over 10 lbs., Obamacare comes with a $1.8 trillion price tag over the next decade. This law is a massive expansion of government that will result nearly 500,000 lost jobs. Rather than forcing Americans out of their jobs and further involving itself in our personal health decisions, the federal government needs to get out of our personal lives.

Already amended and delayed nearly 40 times, it's time to move for full repeal and replace it a version similar to a proposal by the Republican Study Committee. This plan protects our relationship with doctors, allows for more investment in health saving accounts, allows us to keep policies when we change jobs, and provides for the coverage of those with pre-existing conditions.

Jay Dardenne: Introduced law requiring no-smoking areas in restaurants

Dardenne ran for Metro Council the next year and won against four opponents. But his lawmaking ideas didn't always win him friends. When he introduced legislation that required no-smoking areas in restaurants, lobbyists from the Capitol who would rarely darken the door of the City Council showed up to fight it. Dardenne managed to get it passed.
