Jay Nixon on Civil Rights

Missouri Governor-Elect

To make Missouri great, need to advance civil rights

Making it easier to discriminate against people with disabilities or cancer, against women, older workers and minorities, and against those of different faiths and ethnicities will not help us create jobs or be more competitive in a global economy. To thrive in a global economy and uphold these values that we share, Missouri must be a state that continues to move forward--not backward--when it comes to civil rights and equal opportunity.

Believes marriage is between a man and a woman

I was raised to believe that marriage is between one man and one woman. The California ruling was reported widely in the news, and it was important to make it clear that this ruling would have no bearing on how we define marriage here in Missouri.
