Lee Jones on Civil Rights

Democratic Senate Challenger (KS)

Patriot Act runs roughshod over our civil rights

The Bush administration has been all too willing to run roughshod over our civil rights. It used the 9/11 attacks almost as a pretext for a hasty promotion of the Patriot Act, which placed expeditiousness over thoughtful deliberation. The Patriot Act doe away with much of the protection of due process. It allows surveillance and scrutiny for vague justification, giving the government far too much latitude to intrude into the average citizen's personal life. I will not vote to extend the Patriot Act.
