Can Clinton run again in 2004?

jobestr asked this question on 11/17/2000:

Can a president run for a third term after he/she has set out for a term? If not what is the rules on years in which a person can be president.

JesseGordon gave this response on 11/17/2000:

Nope, Clinton is retiring for life.

The 22nd amendment says:
"No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice...."

It's just "more than twice", wiht nothing about skipped terms.

JesseGordon gave this follow-up answer on 11/17/2000:

The maximum number of years is therefore 8, if you get elected president.

If you get elected V.P. and the president dies with less than 2 years left in your term, then you can still get re-elected twice, which would make a total of 10 years.

That's in the 22nd amendment too.
