Dino Rossi on Abortion

2000: sponsored bill to outlaw abortions

Dino Rossi has taken flack from Clint Didier and his supporters for not being anti-abortion enough. Rossi doesn't address the subject on the "Issues" page of his website. So to get a sense for how he might vote on the topic in D.C., we went once again to his record in the state legislature. Turns out Rossi once sponsored a bill that, if passed, could have effectively outlawed abortions in this state.

In 2000 Rossi and nine other senators proposed adding unborn children to the definition of a person in the state constitution. That would mean that fetuses couldn't be "deprived of life, liberty, or property without due process," as stated in that document. The bill died in committee.

Endorsed by West Virginians for Life

Manchin defeated former Republican legislator Russ Weeks. With 85 percent of precincts reporting, the governor had nearly 70 percent of the vote.

Armed with just a fraction of Manchin's campaign cash, Weeks sought to tar the governor with the scandal stemming from West Virginia University's decision to award one of his daughter's a master's degree she had not earned. A Catholic like Manchin, Weeks had also focused on the abortion issue but saw West Virginians for Life endorse Manchin.

The Christian Coalition voter guide [is] one of the most powerful tools Christians have ever had to impact our society during elections. This simple tool has helped educate tens of millions of citizens across this nation as to where candidates for public office stand on key faith and family issues.
