Next Generation Scholarship: $7,500 for teachers' tuition
This year let's find ways to make teaching more attractive and do our part to encourage more Hoosiers to pursue careers in education. That is why I am so enthusiastic about Speaker Bosma's Next
Generation Scholarship that would cover up to $7,500 per year in tuition for students who are in the top 20 percent of their class and commit to teaching in Indiana for at least five years.

Named Legislator of the Year by Public Charter School Assoc.
Throughout his years of public service, Brian has been recognized as an exemplary leader. In 2005, he received the Friends of First Steps Award for his support of early childhood intervention programs. He was named Government Leader of the Year
by the Indiana Chamber of Commerce in 2003 and became the first legislator to twice receive the prestigious Chairman's Award from the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB). In 2002, Brian was among the national recipients of Governing
Magazine's Public Official of the Year Award, given in recognition of outstanding achievement at the state and local level.
In 2010, Speaker Bosma was named Legislator of the Year by the Indiana Public Charter School Association and was awarded the Golden Apple Award by Indiana Virtual Families.

Supports vouchers and charter schools
Q: Do you support a merit pay system for teachers?A: Yes.
Q: Is the tenure process for public school teachers producing effective teachers?
A: No.
Q: Should parents be allowed to use vouchers to send their children to any school?
A: Yes.
Q: Do you support state funding for charter schools?
A: Yes.
Q: Do you support the state government providing college students with financial aid?
A: Yes.
Bosma adds, "Circumstances will vary the above generalized answers. We must continue to do all we can to lift teacher training and effectiveness and treat teachers as the professionals they are."

Support STEM teachers to prepare for STEM jobs
Leaders in Classrooms; Leaders in Life: "Excellent teachers are one central key to success for young Hoosiers.
We need to continue to look for ways to provide additional support to classroom teachers and ensure we have a strong pipeline to get teachers in hard to fill areas, such as science, technology, engineering and mathematics [STEM]," said Speaker Bosma.
Currently there are nearly two and a half STEM jobs for every one unemployed person in Indiana.
Despite the economic downturn, these jobs have remained in demand, and will only increase as technology marches on.
