Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Abortion

Hyde amendment about healthcare for poor & women of color

The Hyde amendment isn't about abortion per se. The Hyde amendment is truly about equality of health care and health care access for low-income women and women of color and women that get caught in our incarceration system. The Hyde amendment is about income inequality and it's about women's healthcare in a system of income inequality. We need to repeal it. We're talking about 50, 51 percent of the American public being impacted by the realities of the Hyde amendment.

Repeal Hyde amendment; it's about inequality

The Hyde amendment isn't about abortion per se. The Hyde amendment is about equality of health care access for low-income women and women of color and women that get caught in our mass incarceration system. So the Hyde amendment is about income inequality. We need to repeal it. This is not in the niche topic of women's issues anymore, this is an American issue. We're talking about 51% of the American public being impacted by the Hyde amendment.

Women should have access to quality reproductive healthcare

Reproductive freedom is especially essential for all individuals of marginalized genders, including cisgender women and trans people. Alexandria does not accept any federal, state or local rollbacks, cuts or restrictions on the ability of individuals to access quality reproductive healthcare services. This means open access to safe, legal, affordable abortion, birth control, and family planning services, as well as to adequate, affordable pre- and post-natal care, for all people.

Pro-choice, according to PVS survey.

Ocasio-Cortez supports the PVS survey question on abortion rights

Project Vote Smart inferred whether candidates agree or disagree with the statement, 'Abortion: Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?' PVS self-description: "The Political Courage Test provides voters with positions on key issues. Historically, candidates have failed to complete our test due to the advice they receive from their advisors and out of fear of negative attack ads."
