Vic Vickers on Energy & Oil

Republican Senate challenger

Oil execs get filthy rich; give Alaskans a fair share

Vickers scooted off to see the pipeline. Vickers said, "I think it's outrageous that Alaskans are struggling to fill the tank of their car when oil executives have gotten filthy rich on artificially inflated oil."

Vickers emphasized, "I got in this race to stop corruption," Vickers said. "If Alaskans get their fair share of oil revenue, then we'll be able to provide good jobs, more educational opportunities and to support law enforcement in a significant way."

Develop ANWR in an environmentally safe way

He has pledged to refuse oil company and special interest money and as a critic of the oil industry, he expects them to push back against his campaign. Nonetheless, like the majority of Alaskans, Vickers supports developing the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and says it can be done in an "environmentally safe" way.

Require that ANWR's crude oil pipelines be double-walled

To develop ANWR in an environmentally safe way, we must first convince the American people that Alaska is served by honest officials who will fight to protect the nation's most valuable treasures. One important step is to require that crude oil pipelines be double-walled, like oil tankers were forced to be double-hulled after the Exxon-Valdez disaster. We also must protect our magnificent polar bears, which are unique symbols of this great state, and the subsistence lifestyle & culture of Native Alaskans
