Chuy Garcia on Immigration

ICE should treat immigrants humanely or be cancelled

ICE is the tip of the spear for the Trump administration's efforts to use terror to intimidate immigrants into leaving the U.S and punish immigrants who are legal residents. There are better ways to manage our borders.˙We have to create a better system that effectively deals with customs issues and humanely promotes immigration. I will press the ICE issue so that ICE will either be a constructive part of humane immigration mission or we will move on from ICE.

Cost of a "wall" for Mexico is not a good use of tax dollars

Q: Should the "wall" between the U.S. and Mexico be built?

A:˙Building a wall between the U.S. and Mexico will cost billions. The Dept of Homeland Security estimated it would cost $21.6B to build. The Democratic staff of the Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee have issued a report showing it could cost nearly $70B to build and $150M a year to maintain. At a time when many critical domestic programs are severely underfunded, I do not believe a wall is a good use of tax dollars.
