Pramila Jayapal on Abortion

Expand contraceptive options for women & Planned Parenthood

For the last twenty years, Pramila has been a leading advocate for women, including directing We Belong Together--a campaign to bring a gender lens to immigration reform policy that keeps families together and empowers women.

In the Washington Senate, Pramila introduced legislation to expand contraceptive options for women and led efforts to provide critical services to victims of domestic violence.

Pramila is a staunch advocate for a woman's right to make her own health care decisions. She believes that with Planned Parenthood under attack, now more than ever we must fight for expanded access to women's health care--including access to abortion care, and expanding preventive care such as mammograms and ovarian cancer screenings. In the State Senate, she helped ensure that women on Medicaid would have access to multiple forms of contraception, so that women could choose what made the most sense for their medical needs.

Supports pro-choice legislation.

Jayapal supports the PVS survey question on abortion

The Project Vote Smart Voter Guide inferred how candidates would respond to the question, 'Abortion: Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?' Project Vote Smart notes, "in response to the increasing unwillingness of candidates to answer issue questions, Project Vote Smart has researched Congressional candidates' public records to determine candidates' likely responses on certain key issues. These issue positions, from the year 2016, are provided [for candidates who] refused to provide voters with positions on key issues covered by the 2016 Political Courage Test, despite repeated requests. Historically, candidates have failed to complete our test due to the advice they receive from their parties and advisors and out of fear of negative attack ads."

Endorsed Endorsed by EMILY's list for pro-choice Democratic women.

Jayapal is endorsed by Congressional endorsement list

Our immediate focus is to protect our gains from 2008 and make sure President Obama has strong Democratic majorities in Congress. Its name? EMILY's List--an acronym for "Early Money Is Like Yeast" (because it makes the dough--campaign funds--rise).
