Jim Doyle on Crime

Democratic WI Governor

Supports Truth-in-Sentencing and guidelines for judges

The passage of the truth-in-sentencing law in Wisconsin was a great victory for Jim Doyle. Crime victims and the public now have certainty about the amount of time a convicted criminal will serve. Jim Doyle first proposed a comprehensive plan for truth-in-sentencing in 1996. At that time, he also proposed a complete revision of the criminal sentencing code that establishes guidelines for judges, which would provide greater certainty and equity in sentencing decisions throughout the state.

Constitutional amendment for victims? rights

Too often, criminals get attention while victims of crime get ignored. Jim Doyle has fought to change this. Passionate about justice, Jim Doyle has fought to allow crime victims to be present at court proceedings, be heard in court, and receive notification of criminal appeals. Jim Doyle successfully fought for passage a new constitutional amendment guaranteeing the rights of crime victims and groundbreaking victims? rights legislation.
