Mike Bouchard on Government Reform

Republican Challenger

Supports line-item veto on spending bills

I know from firsthand experience that spending is not a partisan issue. In many cases, Republicans are just as guilty as Democrats. To eliminate wasteful spending contained in Congressional Appropriations bills, the President needs a line-item veto as most governors have, including Michigan’s. The President has proposed legislation that would provide him with a limited, constitutionally sound veto. I support providing the President with this common sense authority to help rein in all spending offenses

Tort Reform: end frivolous lawsuits

Common sense in our legal system has been replaced by a new set of rules that allow for abuse of our legal traditions. All too often, large damages are awarded for seemingly frivolous cases. In the end, though, most of the money that should go to injured plaintiffs’ winds up going to trial lawyers. I’ll support common sense legal reforms to ensure innocent parties don’t fall prey to greedy trial lawyers who are looking to exploit our legal system.
