Greg Brannon on Social Security

Private, free-market alternatives for future generations

The United States should be a country that keeps its promises. We have made very important commitments to our seniors and we must keep those promises while preparing for and providing private, free-market alternatives for future generations. We must not abandon those who have paid into Social Security and Medicare for most of their lives and have planned for their future based on these benefits.

For decades, we have used the income from these investments to fund the general budget without preparing for the retirement of larger generations of seniors. As our unfunded liabilities expand, these programs have become unsustainable and unstable. Individuals in their 20s, 30s, and 40s need the freedom to select among private, personal investment programs. We must begin to phase in true market reforms so that future generations can face a future that is financially secure while maintaining our promises to those that are depending on them.
