Dave Webber on Social Security

Don't privatize Social Security; fix it instead

Q: Do you support or oppose the statement, "Privatize Social Security"?

A: No. Privatizing Social Security, which it has been suggested subjecting it to the Stock Market, is just wrong. This is OUR money. WE should have more say in what happens to it, including passing legislation prohibiting the Federal Government from take billions of dollars whenever it wants to! There are many fixes I would propose to help "fix" social security and medicare, which can be discussed at a later time.

Maximum limit for pay into social security needs increase

The Social Security trust fund is under-funded. We have a maximum pay from which social security tax is deducted set around $120,000 per year with small yearly increases. This alone, if removed or increased, would better fund our Social Security program. Also, we have the capability to rein in Social Security benefit fraud. It's time we started plugging the leaks in our system before we look at pouring more into it.
