Rand Knight on Civil Rights

Democrat Challenger

Treat people equally, regardless of sexual orientation

Rand Knight believes that all people are created--and should be treated--equally, regardless of sex, gender, sexual orientation, race or religion. Rand Knight believes a major part of moving the United States forward relies on ending discrimination at both the personal and institutional levels and move towards an era of acceptance and true equality in all aspects life.

As a U.S. Senator, Rand Knight will sponsor/support legislation that would prohibit job discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity or expression as well as support/co-sponsor the Matthew Shepard Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act. It's time to realize that people are being targeted because of their sexual orientation and/or gender identity and enact harsher sentencing against those doing the targeting and committing these heinous acts.

No federal or state Constitutional definition of marriage

As a U.S. Senator, Rand Knight will oppose any attempt to amend the US Constitution, as well as the constitution of the state of Georgia, for the purposes of denying rights to same sex couples. The US Constitution was written with the intent to give rights to US Citizens, not take rights from them. Additionally, Rand Knight believes the federal government should acknowledge the states' recognition of same sex couples.
