Decriminalize marijuana

The complete legalization of drugs, especially hard narcotics, is not a good idea, but the decriminalization of marijuana-turning the possession of small amounts into a fineable offense instead of a felony-is certainly overdue. Too many young people are in prison instead of college on account of drug laws that are about as effective as the prohibition laws of the last century. It is quite a mistake that a young person who has experienced a drug offense cannot thereafter receive a federal college loan.
