Christopher Reed on Gun Control

Republican challenger

2nd Amendment is an individual right

Reed celebrates today with 2nd Amendment rights supporters after the Supreme Court ruled in DC vs. Heller that the Washington, D.C. gun ban was, indeed, unconstitutional.

Reed stated, "It is unfortunate the citizens of our nation's capitol were deprived of their right to self-defense for over 30 years, but beginning today we can reverse the dangerous misinterpretations of our Constitution."

Since the 2nd Amendment was ratified in 1791, the Supreme Court has never definitively ruled on the meaning of the right to keep and bear arms. Reed has always believed that the right is an individual right. The Supreme Court reaffirmed that principle. "It is ridiculous that the government would force vulnerability on its own citizens. Tom Harkin supported this gun ban for 32 years."

Reed warns that although the victory should be celebrated, gun rights advocates should stay vigilant against future attempts to take away your constitutional right to keep and bear arms.

The only gun-owner & hunter in this race

He is the ONLY veteran in this race, the only gun-owner & hunter in this race. He did not get in the race "late", otherwise he wouldn't be on the ballot. He is the ONLY candidate in this race who speaks about the major issues freely, and backs up each position he takes with facts, data, insight & lets voters know exactly where he stands on each issue without wishy-washy avoidance or aloofness to the subject or task at hand. He is simply an Iowan who wants to go to Washington to represent other Iowans.

Individual right to hunting guns and hand guns

Q: What is your position on the second amendment?

A: While in the Navy I was stationed in Virginia Beach. They had a concealed weapons law that law helped lower street and person to person crime, because no one knew who was and who was not carrying a concealed weapon. Thugs and bandits had to decide whether it was worth chancing a robbery. The 2nd amendment means individuals have the right to keep arms. Not just hunting guns but hand guns as well. I am committed to maintaining the 2nd amendment.
