Previous Occupation:   He served on Board of Directors of Gilead Sciences, Inc. and on the boards of directors of ABB (Asea Brown Boveri) Ltd. and Amylin Pharmaceuticals. Chairman of the Salomon Smith Barney International Advisory Board.

Previous Office:    Elected to the U.S. House of Representatives from Illinois in 1960s. Member of the President Nixon's Cabinet (1969-1970). Ambassador to NATO in Brussels, Belgium (1973-1974). Chief of Staff & Secretary of Defense under President Ford.

Education:    He attended Princeton University on scholarship (AB, 1954)

Birthplace:    Chicago, Illinois, 1932

Spouse:    Married in 1954, he and his wife Joyce have three children and five grandchildren. Mrs. Rumsfeld was the founding Chairman of the Chicago Foundation for Education.

Military:    Served in the U.S. Navy (1954-57) as a Naval aviator and was All Navy Wrestling Champion.
