State of Texas Archives: on Corporations

Greg Abbott: $2 billion reduction in the business franchise tax

I will reject any budget that does not include genuine tax relief to Texas employers and job creators. I will also insist on property tax reduction. It's time for property owners--not government--to truly own their property.

My plan calls for a $2 billion reduction in the business franchise tax and a $2.2 billion reduction in the property tax burden. My budget includes an appropriation that makes school districts whole for any tax revenue they might lose.

Emily Sanchez: The Occupy Movement woke me up and gave me hope

I remember a time when I wanted nothing to do with politics and then the Occupy Movement was born. I can not deny that it woke me up and gave me hope. Here there were so many individuals with shared beliefs trying to make a dent in the system. It was the beginning and now I'm occupying the ballot. Be the change.

Three years ago a rebellion began in NYC--it spread across the country and was in 1400 cities in America. We occupied public parks and places to make a bold political statement-- that the country had been hijacked by special interests, lobbyists, and corporate welfare/windfall profits which fueled dark money and bought off elections. The economy never recovered (meaning average people lost big while big corporations did very well).

A new world is waiting for us but first we need to recognize it and then make it happen! May all the corruption, deaths, foul play, and downright dirty deeds fade away and may all good people unite for a better tomorrow!!

Brian Babin: Government regulations stymie entrepreneurship

Job Creation: I believe jobs are created by a thriving free enterprise system, not by the government. Indeed, our government has done much to stymie entrepreneurship. We must implement pro-growth policies to provide incentives for the creation and growth of businesses. This will create jobs and help regenerate our economy.

Regulation: Burdensome regulations must be reduced and reined in. Bureaucratic agencies are killing the economy and have usurped the powers of the Congress and states.

David Dewhurst: I formed a business from scratch; bring that to government

At Friday's U.S. Senate debate between David Dewhurst and Ted Cruz, Dewhurst said, "I formed a business from scratch and built it up. Then I tried to take my business skills to Austin and we've created the very best economy in the entire country."

Cruz responded, "My record is one of spending a lifetime of fighting to defend the Constitution and winning on a national level."

David Alameel: Abandon Washington dependence on big money from Wall Street

Dr. Alameel is running for congress for one and one reason only! He wants to give back to his community and his country which gave him so much of God's blessings. He is concerned today about the direction of our nation and especially the mindless gridlock in Washington. He believes that it is time for Washington to abandon the dependence on big money from corporate and Wall Street money. The outdated political ideas and tactics which rely on big money and the blind obedience to one's own party is not in our national interest. It is time for us to put our country first and he will do just that. He is a man who will be steadfast in his commitment to a government of the people.

Tom Leppert: I'm a career businessman; I've actually created jobs

In his attempt to set himself apart from the other candidates, Leppert pitched his experience as a career businessman before entering politics. "I don't only talk about creating jobs and cutting spending, I've actually done it," the former Dallas mayor said.

Leppert suggested that Texans needed a senator who wasn't a career politician like Dewhurst, lacking in business experience like Cruz, or inexperienced holding elected office like James.
