State of Kansas Archives: on Jobs

Laura Kelly: Rebuilding crumbling infrastructure means jobs

An obvious area for job growth is to rebuild our crumbling infrastructure. I'm proud that Democrats and Republicans came together last year to pass a 10-year infrastructure plan--it's a strategic, practical approach that allows us to prioritize the most urgently needed projects. As we speak, more than 160 state highway and local road projects are under construction or about to be. And another 230 projects have been awarded for future construction.

Dave Lindstrom: Bring American manufacturing back from China

We need to put the needs of hard-working Americans first and move more manufacturing back to the United States. I've had enough of the career politicians holding us back. I have had enough of Made in China. The Chinese government has only one priority, total control, and they're willing to put American lives at risk to achieve it. I have said for years that America must become more financially independent from China. We cannot let an authoritarian regime in Beijing destroy our economy.

Laura Kelly: Endorsed by United Steelworkers:fighter for working families

The United Steelworkers today announced its endorsement of state Senator Laura Kelly for governor in the Kansas Democratic primary. USW District 11 Director Emil Ramirez praised Kelly as a powerful advocate for working families. "As a 4-term state senator, Laura has never flinched in fighting for working men and women and their families, on the job and in the community." "Sen. Kelly knows the importance of service and integrity," said USW Local 307L President Jody Juarez.

Mike Parson: Low unemployment rate now, but new skills needed to move up

Parson sat down with a KSHB-41 Action News reporter to talk about issues that matter to people living in the "Show Me" state.

On Jobs: Parson: "We have the lowest unemployment rate that Missouri has seen in a couple decades. Interesting fact is on a federal level, food stamps recipients are down 2.2 million and that is a good sign. Now all we need them to do is to have the skills to move up in the workforce, to get that quality job and stand on their own two feet."

Jeff Colyer: Provide tools to fill 48,000 unfilled jobs in our state

Job growth and enhancing the quality of life for all Kansans must be our highest priority. So, here's my vision for Kansas:

Over the next few years, I want us to work together to steadily and professionally build Kansas to be a vibrant, growing state. In short, I want our children to see their best future right here in Kansas.

The Kansas unemployment rate is 3.4%. That's one of the lowest in the country. But if you travel around our state, it's impossible to miss the real-world struggles still faced by so many Kansas families. A rising tide lifts all boats, but too many of our people seem to be stranded on dry land. An expanding economy with opportunities for higher income and rising standards of living only works if our citizens have the right tools to make the most of their own lives.

Did you know there are more than 48,000 unfilled jobs in our state today? Truly, we have jobs looking for people. More and better jobs for Kansans is important to me personally.

Greg Orman: Government should create environment conducive to job growth

It is government's job to create an environment that is conducive to job growth. And we're not doing that.

We've created such uncertainty with our inability to come together and solve problems that it's made it difficult for businesses to choose to invest in the United States. We're our own worst enemy when it comes to creating jobs in this country because the dysfunction in Washington doesn't inspire confidence.

As a country, we need to live within our means. I believe it's immoral to pass along large debts to the next generation. The only way we get spending under control is by making hard choices that Congress today seems unwilling to make. With each party fighting for their own pet projects and political power, there is no accountability to the American people.
