State of Arizona secondary Archives: on Free Trade

Debbie Lesko: Free trade needs to be fair trade

[When asked about her stance on international trading systems, Lesko said]: I usually believe in free trade, the free market. But I do know China is stealing our technology. I'm in favor of free trade but fair trade [with China, implying additional restrictions].

[The moderator] said organized labor applauded trade agreements. [Lesko's opponent, Democrat Tipal] Tipirneni said, "We always want agreement fair to American business. I'm very mindful of trade wars; it has real-life implications."

Debbie Lesko: Investment in education should be done locally

I believe education is about empowering parents to make the right choices for their children and their families. That's why I believe the federal government needs to get out of the way of decisions made at the local level. I will support federal block grants back to states so that we in Arizona can continue to decide how best to spend our money--not bureaucrats in Washington.

Jim Lamon: Level the playing field, no goods from cheap slave labor

Relying on China for our raw materials and manufacturing has become a national security issue. For decades, China has used unfair trade deals to steal intellectual property, damage our businesses, and steal American jobs. I will fight to level the international playing field for American workers and businesses by ensuring that goods coming into the U.S. are not made with cheap slave labor, unfettered environmental pollution, and unsafe working conditions.
