Survey of 2016 Senate campaign websites: on Jobs

Jerry Sturgill: Wage inequality is unforgivable

We must eliminate wage inequality. Women who do the same job as a man should receive the same pay. In my church leadership positions, I have helped single moms who can't support their families on a single, minimum wage income. Wage inequality between men and women is especially pronounced in Idaho. We can argue about how many pennies are involved, but wage inequality is unforgivable. Period.

Thomas Dixon: Raise minimum wage to $15 per hour

Mike Workman: Raise minimum wage to $10.10 now & $15 later

Raise minimum wage: phase out exemptions, raise to at least $10.10 an hour, index to inflation, then work towards a livable wage of $15 an hour.

Strengthen and improve Affordable Health Care [ObamaCare] and work towards universal coverage. I will support major efforts for a healthier workforce and citizenry with a new national effort to cure most forms of cancer in our lifetime. More diverse and better economic development in clean industries such as tourism and the arts.

Patty Judge: Take action to increase the minimum wage

Middle class wages are stagnant and Patty believes we need to take action to increase wages and give working families across the nation a fair shot. This starts with increasing the minimum wage to allow working families to get ahead without working 2 or 3 minimum wage jobs at a time. Patty also believes we need to take action to end gender discrimination in pay to ensure that men and women are receiving equal pay for equal work.

Scott Milne: Focus on creating new jobs by changing Vermont's reputation

The real test of a healthy economy is its ability to create new jobs. In April of this year, our private sector grew by 50 new jobs. Vermont has a reputation for being unfriendly toward business, young Vermonters leave the state to get good-paying jobs, and we see darker storm clouds on the horizon. Soon, without a more balanced government and a change in Vermont's reputation among businesses, we may look back on the days when we grew our economy--by even 50 jobs --as "the good old days." Vermont should be known not only for its natural beauty and friendly people, but also as a great place to find a job or grow a business. It is not, and we are going in the wrong direction. In today's modern, interconnected world, companies and jobs can move. There are many reasons people want to live in Vermont, let's make the economy one of them.

Jay Williams: Time for the entire nation to get a raise

In 2014, South Dakotans voted for an increase in the minimum wage, because they know that people deserve to be fairly compensated for their work. Jay believes that it's time for the entire nation to get a raise, and he will fight for a minimum wage that is fair, just and livable.

Jim Rubens: Enforce that all employers use E-Verify system

Kelly Ayotte swore during her 2010 campaign that she would oppose amnesty. She then broke her promise and voted for the Gang of 8 amnesty - open borders - jobs for foreigners bill.

John Fetterman: Support raising the minimum wage to at least $15 an hour

It's not a secret--the majority of Pennsylvanians are working longer hours for lower wages. That's not the hallmark of a true democracy, or what we should aspire to. Everybody is better off when everybody is better off. I will support raising the minimum wage to at least $15 an hour. What does it say about our country that we have people working full time that are unable to take care of themselves or their family? We as a society have an obligation to give people a wage they can actually live on.

Ron Crumpton: Raise the minimum wage to a living wage & save $7.6B

We need to raise the minimum wage. You cannot be against a raise in the minimum wage and for cutting government assistance, and still say that you are worried about the people living in poverty. The two are in direct conflict. If you do not insure that people are being paid a living wage then you are going to have people who rely on government assistance. It is that simple.

Raising the minimum wage would reduce government expenditures on current income-support programs by $7.6 billion per year--and possibly more. In Alabama, 45% of single parent families are living in poverty, there are 392,000 children receiving food stamps and 95,636 Alabama households are receiving federal rental assistance. Alabama is well above the national average in every one of these categories. Therefore, we would be among those who benefit the most, yet it is our current leaders who are the largest critics of this necessary reform. I would sponsor legislation to raise the minimum wage to $15 per hour.

P.G. Sittenfeld: Raise minimum wage and close unfair loopholes

I'll put money back in the pockets of working people by raising the minimum wage and closing unfair loopholes. I believe in our country. And I love my state. My family came to Ohio because they wanted opportunity--and they found it.

Creating opportunity--for everyone. That's why I first ran for public office. It's why I run now.

Pam Keith: Raise the minimum wage, but also address income stagnation

By virtually every measure, the average American worker's wages have remained flat (or have declined) in the past decade. Others assert that the answer is to increase the federal minimum wage. Doing so will help some at the lower income level (and might hurt others), but will hardly affect the buying power of those who make more than minimum wage now. While I support raising the minimum wage, I do not believe that this alone will address the larger problem of income stagnation.
