George Maragos in Survey of 2012 Senate campaign websites
On Social Security:
Protect our sacred commitment to our seniors
Washington must learn fiscal responsibility. Hard working Americans balance their checkbooks every month. The federal government must do the same. I would support a balanced budget amendment and legislation to eliminate earmarks.
We must take action now to reduce the deficit, eliminate wasteful spending, and reform entitlements in order to restore America's economic strength, provide for individual opportunity and guarantee future prosperity for our children.
Government programs which have proven ineffective and wasteful should be terminated. Senator Gillibrand has continuously advocated for bigger government, more spending and more dependency on government which will bankrupt
America and will continue to drive jobs overseas.
Medicare and Social Security are a sacred commitment to our seniors and should be protected. Senator Gillibrand voted to kill these programs by her vote against raising the national debt ceiling.

On Abortion:
Human life is precious
I personally do not support abortion as a form of birth control and believe it should be limited to cases where the mother's life is in danger, or there has been rape or incest. Over 1 million abortions are performed in the U.S. each year.
Human life is precious; we need to do more to promote adoption as a more humane alternative. I oppose federal funding for abortion and I support parental consent and notification. I will support three months paid maternal leave.

On Education:
Competition among states with freedom to innovate
Race to the Top is the latest federal education program that will spend billions of dollars while our children continue to under-perform. It is time to recognize that the federal government has failed our children. Regulations on top of more
regulations do not educate; a new approach is required. The federal Department of Education should be abolished and authority be given back to the states. Competition among the states with freedom to innovate will result in improved quality of education.

On Energy & Oil:
Develop all domestic energy sources, including natural gas
America must make a National Commitment to achieve Energy Independence in 10 years and become a global leader in renewable energy. Over the last 20 years our dependence on foreign oil has become unsustainable resulting in massive
outflows of dollars overseas and punishing high gasoline prices at the pump.We went to the moon 40 years ago with less technology than we have today. We can achieve Energy Independence in 10 years while creating millions of good paying jobs.
All domestic energy sources should be developed with emphasis on renewable energy and protection of the environment.
Natural gas drilling in Western New York should be allowed with strict environmental regulations. America should become the leader in safe, clean renewable energy.

On Foreign Policy:
Foreign aid only for worthy allies, like Israel
The US should not need to purchase friendship. Foreign aid should be given only to worthy allies. Israel should maintain its right to defend itself and negotiate peace terms in a manner that is satisfactory to the State of Israel and its people.
As our closest ally in the Middle East, Israel shares with America a dedication to democratic ideals and a commitment to peace and human rights in the region. Israel deserves our unwavering support in the ongoing Middle East conflicts

On Free Trade:
Buy American at home; demand fair trade abroad
Our foreign policy must demand fair trade and vigorously protect the American worker against unfair trade practices such as currency manipulation, use of child labor and intellectual property theft. We must adopt a national manufacturing policy
in strategic industries and encourage all to "Buy American". Every new piece of legislation and regulation should be subjected to a jobs impact assessment and rejected if it destroys jobs for hard working New Yorkers and Americans.

On Gun Control:
I support safe and responsible gun ownership
I support the Second Amendment that allows citizens in good standing to keep and bear arms.
I support safe and responsible gun ownership and smart programs to keep guns out of the hands of criminals.

On Health Care:
ObamaCare must be repealed
The Health Care Reform Act must be repealed. As a small business owner, I can say with certainty that it is a jobs killer as it stands. The law has already resulted in higher insurance premiums for individuals and higher mandated costs for
state and local governments. Opposite of its goals, the law will ultimately result in lower health care quality, ever-rising prices for individuals and businesses, and fewer Americans with insurance coverage.
I will be a strong advocate for affordable health care for all Americans. We can achieve affordable and quality health care for everyone through tort reform, aggressive reductions in
Medicare and Medicaid fraud, interstate health insurance competition, and free and open pharmaceutical and medical markets.

On Homeland Security:
More money to NY for fight against terrorism
New York is Ground Zero in the fight against terrorism. New York State and the Federal government must partner to bring more assistance to New York City and our State. Our State should also be the home of the
Homeland Security Industry and thousands of related jobs. Senator Gillibrand has not been a winning champion to bring these jobs to New York.

On Homeland Security:
Don't try enemy combatants in civilian courts
We must acknowledge that we are engaged in a War of Terror against Islamic extremists. Our focus should be on fighting this threat using all means necessary. CIA covert operations and drone attacks have proven much more effective and should be
prioritized over conventional warfare. Captured foreign terrorists should be treated as enemy combatants and tried before military tribunals--not civilian courts.

On Homeland Security:
Europe, Korea, Japan, & Taiwan should pay for own defense
We must ask ourselves why we are footing the bill to protect Europe, the Middle East, Korea, Japan, and Taiwan with our troops without demanding contribution from these countries that benefit from our presence.
They should pay for their defense just like Americans. I will support a strong military as vital to our national security.

On Immigration:
Enforce all our laws and secure our borders
America has always welcomed legal immigrants and should always continue to do so. As a naturalized American citizen,
I know first-hand that this country stands alone in embracing immigrants from all over the globe while offering unmatched opportunity for social and economic mobility.
Unfortunately, the lack of enforcement of our current federal immigration laws has resulted in uncontrolled illegal immigration and sapped the limited resources of local governments. We are a nation of laws. We must enforce all our laws and secure our
borders.I will support immigration reform that unites families, attracts and retains talented entrepreneurs, supports the needs of farmers for temporary labor and affirm legal immigration as the best path towards citizenship.

On Tax Reform:
Our tax code must be simpler and fairer
All government policies (trade, fiscal, monetary, foreign, energy, immigration, and others) must be aligned to make us more competitive, and to create and protect American jobs. Our tax code must be reformed to be simpler and fairer, free of all
subsidies and loopholes, but with strong incentives to manufacture right here in the U.S. Our goal must be to establish an economic climate that is business-friendly with less regulatory burden which can spark the entrepreneurial spirits of all Americans

On Tax Reform:
Work towards "Fair Tax"
I will support tax reform towards a "Fair Tax" that will provide tax relief for middle class families, eliminate the Alternative Minimum Tax, offer tax credits for childcare and college tuition, and tax incentives for
Companies that provide work place child care. Most importantly, I will fight to protect middle class jobs from outsourcing and continue to provide for wage growth though economic expansion and equal pay for women.

On War & Peace:
We must bring all of our troops home now!
America's foreign policy is inconsistent, confused, and naive. We undermine our friends, have overextended our valued military, and support dictators only to later cut them loose. We are currently in three wars spending, in my estimation, over
$4 billion per week. We must bring all of our troops home now! Their missions in Afghanistan and Iraq are accomplished. We must recommit our resources to benefit Americans. Our foreign policy must be driven by National Interest alone.
