Christopher Shays, who wants the Obama healthcare law repealed, said it "takes away" $500 billion from Medicare.The $500 billion, according to the Kaiser Family Health Foundation and other research groups, is not a cut, however, but rather a savings
achieved by slowing the spending growth over 10 years. Politifact said it is not accurate to imply that the program will be funded with less money. Kaiser said the benefits are not decreased."The bottom line is we got to do that (cut growth) just to
save Medicare, but we are taking it to fund something else. We need that just to make sure that Medicare doesn't go bankrupt," Shays said. "To take it out of the program to provide it to another program is a mistake."
In the statement he issued after
the Supreme Court upheld the Accountable Care Act on Thursday, Shays said: "Obamacare takes $500 billion away from Medicare, a vital program for our senior citizens that was already heading for insolvency, and uses it for other purposes."

ObamaCare promised too much and costs too much
Connecticut has the highest per person health care costs in the country, overall health care costs are growing at an unsustainable rate, and the implementation of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) at the federal level has been inept.
While Connecticut's implementation of the state ACA exchange has gone well compared to the federal exchange, the ACA promised too much and will likely cost a lot more than current official government projections.
The ACA needs to be reformed in a manner that rationalizes health care promises, provides more choice, raises the quality of outcomes, and does more to constrain health care costs.
Connecticut should play a leading role in helping to make this a reality.

Common sense tort reform to retain doctors in CT
Our state is losing doctors through retirement or relocation to more welcoming states. As governor, Joe will - Promote a "Train Them & Retain Them" program for new doctors in all of our medical colleges to address both the shortage of doctors and
the aging population of both doctors and patients in Connecticut. The program will focus on loan forgiveness and matching 401k grants upon entering residency in order to recruit doctors into the profession in our very expensive state.

Work to control skyrocketing malpractice insurance costs that have caused some doctors to retire from practice.
- Lead and encourage the legislature to implement common sense tort reform.
Please remember, access to healthcare is not healthcare if you don't get to see a doctor in time. If there are no doctors to care for you, you are not cared for.

As our population ages, healthcare access and healthcare costs are huge concerns. We need to create an environment where our excellent physicians have the motivation to stay in our state. We need to stop treating our hospitals like piggy banks
to close budget gaps. We need appropriate reforms that allow doctors to practice medicine without worrying that bureaucrats are looking over their shoulders. Quality must come first.
